In 2022 I decided to go back to Italy and start a new project. I was still in Japan when a few ideas started to form in my mind and later on they would become Wonderland Illustrations, born from my love for the arts and the wish to create something that could bring a spark of happiness in people’s lives.

I was finally able to create Wonderland Illustrations because of all the different experiences I had, because of my love for Japan and my love for the children. In Wonderland Illustrations you will find products for children of course, but also products for who, like me, still likes to dream.

WONDERLAND ILLUSTRATIONS THE PASSION FOR JAPAN

After getting my Master’s degree in 2012, I studied tourism for a short time and lived in Rome, but in 2014 I finally decided to move to Tokyo in Japan. When I was still in university, during a symposium I had the chance to get to know an amazing Japanese calligraphy teacher and his wife and we became close enough for them to help me move to Japan. While staying with them I started learning Japanese calligraphy and I kept studying it for a few years, also presenting my works at the yearly calligraphy exhibition at the National Art Center in Tokyo.

I had a great time learning not only Japanese calligraphy (shodō), but also a bit of tea ceremony (sadō), flower arrangement (ikebana), how to wear kimono and how to prepare some traditional Japanese sweets (wagashi). I loved learning about Japanese traditions as well as other aspects of the culture. I was attracted in particular by all things that are “kawaii” (cute), as there’s a massive variety of products that are designed to be cute and have a great appeal to people of all ages and genders. This cute design can be found literally everywhere in stationary, clothes, kitchenware, products for the house and a lot more.
Japan is so much more than this and I had to face many challenges living in a Country so different from mine, but I love it nevertheless.
